Case Study
Synopsis: Pinnacle Surety &

founded in 1986, has grown over the years into a respected
General Contractor with expertise in commercial and
institutional construction. In the early 1990’s, the company
made a conscious decision to include bonded projects as a large
percentage of its work within its portfolio. A strong Surety
broker was therefore essential to its success.
President and CEO Patricia Strauss explained that building
stable, long term relationships with clients, employees, and
outside professionals was one of the company’s bedrock values.
Validating that claim is Novus’ track record with UCLA Capital
Programs and Facilities Management, Los Angeles County Fire
Department, Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, the
prestigious

other school districts. Novus has had ongoing projects with UCLA
for more than 20 years. Its relationship with the Westridge
School for Girls,
which was founded in 1913, has continued for
more than a decade. Novus recently completed its fifth building
for the school and expects to receive LEED Platinum
certification for a 16,000 square foot Science Building. Novus
has completed two fire stations for Los Angeles County
Department of Public Works and is currently building two more,
having completed the design phase. Clearly, maintaining
dependable, long lasting, solid relationships are important
values and not just slogans for Novus.

Ms. Strauss stresses that open and honest communication is one

Mark Richardson has been instrumental in recommending a CPA,
various attorneys as required, and an insurance broker to Novus.
When disagreements surfaced on a complicated and large project,
Mark attended the necessary meetings, advised Novus on a variety
of bonding issues, attended court hearings, and ultimately
helped Novus win complete vindication in a case that lasted more
than two years.
Attention to detail and complete responsiveness have been
another hallmark of the Pinnacle relationship with Novus.
“Sometimes clients are very inflexible in their demands,”
Strauss noted. “We needed some last minute documentation in our
Chatsworth office on a Friday afternoon. Mark arranged to
deliver what was needed that very afternoon. He gives us an all
out effort.”
